And pretty late to the party. But here are the best bollywood movies of 2019 in no particular order.
These year was pretty high on ridiculous movies(no not making a list on these). With so much things going around this year, I somehow extracted some time to watch these movies for you guys( ah! joking I am a cinephile so no reason to prefer better things). You should know one thing for sure that in order to witness such evolving filmmakers displaying their craft, these movies should be appreciated, else no Dabangg could save us.
1. Gully boy
Directed by Zoya Akhtar, Gully boy is by far her best movie till date, it gave us the memorable characters like MC Sher, Moeen bhai, etc. It has wonderfully layered narrative, each character was given the depth and nuanced. It somehow created a HipHop sensation across the country, coming of an age impact full drama coupled with a great music.
2. Article 15
By far the most relevant movie of the recent time, Anubhav Sinha's Article 15 bring us back to the rigidity of caste system in rural India, The caste based discrimination present in the country in th form of a tightly knitted thriller that leaves the audiences questioning their ethics and half angered.
3. Judgemental hai kya
Rao and Ranaut combo, what can you expect? A superlative display of talent of these non nepo stars.
It's a funny ,quirky and thrilling ride coupled with layers of emotions and craziness at the core of it. Kangana should get another national award for such a powerhouse display of talent.
4. The sky is pink
Based on a real story, The sky is pink is a heartfelt journey of a family. Priyanka chopra was as usual brilliant and beautiful and so as each performer was sincere. This will move you to tears for sure, catch it on Netflix asap.
5. Sonchiriya
A film that was taken off from theaters within 5 days of review despite strong reviews.
sonchiriya was a beautifully bizzare experience at the movies clashed with Luka chuppi which was one of the worst movie to come out of 2019, then we should doubt our audience's sensebilities.
6. Game over
A brilliant psychological thriller that was opened to many interpretations due to complex, supernatural ending. Taapsee Pannu was as usual brilliant, the supporting cas was good too, it wasn't perfect but a unique thriller as per indian cinema.
7. Chhichhore
Nothing but just nostalgia, Chhichhore capitalised on nostalgic tales of college life, nothing new to the narrative, cliche subplots but it was an enjoyable ride like a guilty pleasure, Naveen Polishetty and Tahir Raj Bhasin were my takeaways in terms of performance.
8. Mard ko Dard Nahi Hota
Vasan Bala created magic on screen with a great narrative which looks like a comic book, It went on to win many awards, clearly the best film for me in 2019. Gulshan Devaiah is legend. period. Abhimany Dassani and Radhika Madan were brilliant in their roles. It was a love letter to the nostalgic action films we grew watching. One of the best entertaining and whimsical movie of 2019. Check it on Netflix.
For those who thought of Kabir Singh, sorry but no sorry, a strict no to misogynistic cinema.
Also didn't enjoyed URI much but I ain't no antinational so spare me for my lack of sentiments in that reference. A huge shoutout to Bala, Goodnewwz, Hamid which were also great.
