Best of hindi cinema 2018

It's april 2019 now. Pretty late to the party as i started blogging late. There are many lists of best of movies in the previous year. So i have done my bit and here's mine(In no particular order)

2018 was a great year for hindi cinema, There were many stories to be told. Brave, unique, and out of the box. With success of films like andhadhun, tumbbad, stree it is right to say that Khurrana, kaushal, rao are the new Khans. Actually screw names, box-office collections, we deserve content driven film over typical old clichéd shit we have been watching for years from now.

Here are the best of hindi cinema(not Bollywood, thats copied like most of our films) from 2018, stories that were brave, outside the box and broke many stereotypes.

5)October

There are some movies which are written from the soul, October was one such movie(Released in April, lol), It was a poetry in motion, the complexities of life, failure, rejections and in between the search of enlightenment, meaning of life. This was one such movie where I was completely blank at the climax. There can be many different outlines that can be drawn based on the perspective of the viewer, The work of director Shoojit Sircar is exceptional. It was not a love story, but a story of love between any two humans. Poetic and moving.

Director- Shoojit Sircar.
Cast- Varun Dhawan, Banita Sandhu.

4)Beyond the Clouds

This movie is on the list because it was highly underrated, Beyond the clouds was a breath of fresh air, The slums, crime and the emotions of an underdog were beautifully captured. Each character was flawed but more humane. The performances of each and every cast was brilliant. The director used his brilliance to weave each of the pieces of story, it was his vision that resulted into real yet fascinating tale, even the child actors have done a phenomenal work in the movie. Highly recommended. Available on Netflix.

Director- Majid Majidi
Cast- Ishaan Khatter, Malavika Mohanan.

3)Manto

Based on the life of Saadat Hasan Manto, Manto is set in the era of 1940s.
It was a brutally honest film giving the reflection of our society during partition, it was a movie string tied with the exceptional acting of each and every actors, It's not a movie for those seeking entertainment. It's for those who want to completely sinks into each character in the movie.
It transports you to a different world completely. The depth of the movie was amazing, cinematography outstanding. Manto was a writer that can create difference of opinion between two people, as each has it's own perspective. It was something that one can't rate. PRICELESS

Director- Nandita Das
Cast- Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Rasika Dugal

2)Andhadhun

Andhadhun was one of the most hyped and talked about movie after it's release, One of the best thrillers to came out of Bollywood ever, It was brilliantly written and engaging film, if you miss a scene, you miss it all. From small blind rabbit in the intro scene to the cat, everything was detailed to the T, there were many theories for the climax. All of them  were justified, one cant catch the proof of any interpretation. Open ending was a big risk, but that's what made Andhadhun what it is today. It was an enriching experience. Pure brilliance.

Director- Sriram Raghavan
Cast- Ayushmann khurrana,Radhika Apte.
(No typo error he uses double n and r.)

1) Tumbbad

Cant define the film in words, but I'll try my best. It's a story of a goddess who created the entire universe and the plot revolves around the consequences when humans build a temple for her first born child. set in 1920s, it's a story about greed and the level of destruction it can create. The world has enough for a person's need, but not for his greed. Masterpiece, spine chiller, breathtaking.Great cinematography, performances and set design. Tumbbad is a benchmark in filmmaking in every department, whether it's about the music, dark treatment, authenticity while making a fictional project. It was a sensible cinema that broke every limits and boundries.
Fun fact- The film took 6 years into making as the makers wanted to shoot the movie in monsoon and a specific natural lighting, How captivating.

Director- Rahi Anil Barve, Adesh Prasad.
Cast- Sohum Shah, Mohammad Samad.

If you were looking for films like Sonu ke titu ki sweety, Padmaavat. Then sorry to disappoint you.
Keep watching. Keep exploring.Cheers!

Honorary  mentions - Mukkabaaz, Laila Majnu, Manmarziyaan, Mulk, Badhai ho. Also a tamil movie named Vada Chennai.
